Sactwu concerned about Walmart/Massmart merger

In the closing arguments heard today before the Tribunal, Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (Sactwu)’s legal team argued that the merger could result in a substantial hollowing out of the SA manufacturing sector, including the clothing, textile, footwear and leather sectors.

Avusa allows consortium to undertake due diligence

The conditions for being allowed to undertake the due diligence included an undertaking that the consortium, represented by Capitau Holdings, will deliver a firm intention to make an offer in terms of the Takeover Regulations within four weeks of the due diligence, Avusa said.

Promises & political swipes mark final election campaign push  

Political parties have used their last pre-election weekend to drum up support for the local government polls, vowing to improve services and taking swipes at their opponents. 

Poll predicts ANC 62%, DA 26% 

An Ipsos Markinor survey conducted just before the local government election indicates that 75% of adults are registered to vote and similar proportions indicated that they are likely to vote and want to vote. The percentage translates into about 24.1 million voters. 

Local govt elections are about people – Zille 

Democratic Allianceleader Helen Zille says the local government elections are about the challenges that ordinary South Africans face – mostly poverty and unemployment. She says the DA – the official opposition party aims to govern a clean, corrupt free government. Zille highlighted the need for a corrupt free government as investors do not want to invest where corruption is rife.

Huge petrol price increases likely to fuel inflation rate
